Ventura County Hot Tub Removal — Done in One Visit

Nobody installs a hot tub thinking about how to get it out someday. But here you are — staring at a 600-pound acrylic shell that hasn't held warm water in three years, the jets are cracked, the cover is sun-rotted, and it's taking up the best corner of your backyard. Moving it yourself isn't happening. A standard hot tub weighs 400 to 800 pounds empty, and that's before you account for the wooden frame, the insulation packed inside the shell, the plumbing, the pump, and the electrical panel.

The Junk Wizards has the tools, the crew, and the experience to break down hot tubs on-site and remove them completely. We use reciprocating saws to cut the shell into manageable sections — pieces small enough to fit through side gates, around pool fencing, and out to the truck. The frame comes apart. The insulation gets pulled. The pump, jets, and plumbing components get separated. Everything gets loaded and hauled away. When we leave, the only thing left is the pad or deck the tub was sitting on.

Access is the biggest variable in hot tub removal. Some spas are sitting on an open patio with a wide gate to the driveway — those are straightforward. Others are tucked behind the house with a 30-inch side gate, surrounded by landscaping, and three feet from the pool. We've done both. We've cut tubs apart in tight corners, carried sections through narrow passages, and worked around pools, decks, and pergolas without damaging anything.

Once the tub is broken down and loaded, all material goes to the appropriate disposal facility. The acrylic shell, fiberglass, wood framing, insulation, and metal components get separated and taken to Toland Road Landfill in Santa Paula or a recycling facility depending on the material. Scrap metal from pumps and frames goes to recyclers. We don't leave any debris on your property — not a single piece of insulation, not a stray screw.

If there's a concrete pad under the tub that you want gone, we can handle that too. Pad removal is a separate service but we can do both in the same visit if the pad is a standard 4-inch residential pour. Deck platforms and wooden bases under the tub also come out if you want them gone. Just tell us the full scope when you call (805) 316-1610 and we'll price the complete job.

We remove hot tubs across Ventura County and western LA County — Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Oak Park, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Camarillo, and throughout the San Fernando Valley. Backyard spas are everywhere in Southern California, and removing them is one of our most frequently requested services. Same-day scheduling is available depending on crew availability.

We break large spas into sections and haul every piece—no left-behind debris.

How Hot Tub Removal Works

1

Prep the Tub Before We Arrive

Drain the water completely before our crew shows up. Disconnect any electrical connections — or have an electrician do this ahead of time. The more prepped it is, the faster we move. If you're not sure how to drain your spa, call us at (805) 316-1610 and we'll walk you through it.

2

We Break It Down On-Site

Our crew uses reciprocating saws and other tools to cut the shell into sections small enough to move through gates, around corners, and out to the truck. We protect your yard, fencing, and any surrounding structures during the process. The frame, insulation, pump, and plumbing all come apart.

3

Full Haul & Site Cleanup

Every piece — shell, frame, insulation, jets, plumbing components, pump, and hardware — gets loaded and hauled away. We sweep and clean the area before we leave. If there's a pad or deck platform that needs to go too, we can handle that in the same visit.

I have hired Justin three times and find him to be very conscientious and hard working. He responds quickly and shows up when he says he is going to. Two times I received same day service and the other time was a bigger job of disassembling and removing a patio cover so we had a scheduled day. I highly recommend The Junk Wizards.

Frequently Asked Questions

The tub needs to be completely drained before we start. Most spas have a drain port near the equipment panel — attach a garden hose and let gravity do the work. Plan for a few hours of drain time depending on the size. If you're not sure how to drain it, call (805) 316-1610 and we'll walk you through it step by step.
That's actually the most common scenario. We cut the shell into sections specifically so we can get pieces out through tight access points. Side gates as narrow as 28 inches, narrow walkways between the house and fence, pool gates — we've worked through all of them. The cutting is what makes this job possible in tight spaces.
We can if you want us to. Concrete pad removal and deck demolition are services we offer and can do in the same visit as the tub removal. Pad removal is priced separately based on size and thickness. Just let us know during the initial call so we factor it into the schedule and quote.
Hot tub removal starts at $299. The final price depends on the size of the tub, access difficulty, and whether you need additional work like pad removal or deck demolition. A standard backyard spa with reasonable gate access typically runs $299–$499. We give you a firm price after a quick on-site look.
Most hot tub removals take between 2 and 4 hours depending on size, access, and whether we're removing additional structures like pads or decks. A straightforward spa with easy access can be done in under 2 hours. Tight-access jobs with large tubs take longer. We'll give you a realistic estimate when we set the appointment.
The hot tub needs to be electrically disconnected before we start cutting. If it's a plug-in model, just unplug it. If it's hardwired to a dedicated circuit (most 220V spas are), have a licensed electrician disconnect and cap the wiring beforehand. This is a safety requirement we don't skip.
Built-in and in-ground spas are more involved than freestanding units, but we've handled them. The shell still gets cut into sections. The surrounding decking or coping may need to come out too. Call (805) 316-1610 so we can discuss the specifics of your setup and price it accurately.
The shell (acrylic or fiberglass) and insulation go to Toland Road Landfill or a similar disposal facility. Metal components like the pump, frame hardware, and jets go to a scrap metal recycler. Wood framing gets recycled when possible. Nothing gets left on your property.
We take precautions to protect your landscaping, fencing, and hardscape during the removal. We lay down plywood or tarps when hauling sections through planted areas. Some minor trampling of grass near the work area can happen, but we don't tear through gardens or break sprinkler heads.
We book hot tub removals by appointment. Same-day availability depends on crew scheduling, but most jobs can be booked within a day or two. If you have a specific date that works — maybe you're having the yard redone or have a party coming up — let us know and we'll lock it in.
