Ventura County Demo — Tear Down, Load Up, Clear Out

That rotting shed in the backyard isn't getting any prettier. Neither is the deck with the soft boards, the fence that's leaning 15 degrees, or the pergola that lost a fight with termites three years ago. Every month you look at it and think "I should really do something about that." The problem isn't motivation — it's that tearing something down and hauling it away is a bigger job than most people want to tackle on a Saturday.

The Junk Wizards combines demolition and debris removal into one service. We tear the structure down, load the material, haul it away, and clean up the site — all in one visit. You don't need to hire a demo crew, then call a hauler, then figure out where to take the material. One crew, one price, one clean site at the end of the day.

We handle wood sheds, metal sheds, small detached garages, wood fencing (including chain link and vinyl), decks, pergolas, arbors, gazebos, non-load-bearing interior walls, drop ceilings, built-in cabinetry, closet systems, and similar structures. Anything that's freestanding or non-structural, we can take down. We don't do load-bearing walls, foundations, or anything that requires structural engineering. But for the typical backyard structure or interior partition, we're the right call.

Safety is built into how we work. Before we start swinging, we check for utilities — electrical lines, water pipes, gas lines, irrigation systems. We verify the structure isn't connected to the main building in ways that would cause problems when it comes down. We work systematically, deconstructing where it makes sense and demolishing where it doesn't. The goal is to get the material down safely, into manageable pieces, and loaded without damaging the surrounding property.

After demolition, all debris goes to the appropriate disposal facility. Clean wood gets recycled when facilities accept it. Metal fencing and hardware go to scrap recyclers. Mixed demo debris goes to Chiquita Canyon Landfill or Toland Road Landfill in Santa Paula depending on the material and our location. Concrete slabs and footings that were under the structure can be broken up and hauled too — that's a common add-on for shed and deck removals.

We handle demo jobs across Ventura County and western LA County — Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Camarillo, and throughout the San Fernando Valley. Backyard structures are everywhere in the Conejo Valley, and a lot of homes built in the 70s and 80s have sheds, decks, and fences that are past their useful life. How Our Demo Jobs Work

1

We Assess the Structure

Before swinging anything, we walk the structure with you — shed, deck, fence, whatever it is. We confirm what's coming down, check for any utilities nearby, look for potential issues like hidden wiring or plumbing, and make sure we're clear on the full scope. The quote covers both the demo and the haul.

2

Safe Demolition & Deconstruction

We work systematically — not just wildly smashing. We deconstruct where it makes sense to salvage materials or maintain control, and demolish where it doesn't. Power tools, pry bars, reciprocating saws — we bring the right equipment for the material. The goal is to get everything down safely and into manageable pieces for loading.

3

Full Haul & Site Cleanup

Everything gets loaded and hauled to the appropriate facility — wood recycler, metal scrap, or landfill depending on the material. We rake, sweep, and clean up the site after the structure is gone. You're left with clear, clean ground — not a debris pile and a pile of nails.

I have hired Justin three times and find him to be very conscientious and hard working. He responds quickly and shows up when he says he is going to. Two times I received same day service and the other time was a bigger job of disassembling and removing a patio cover so we had a scheduled day. I highly recommend The Junk Wizards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wood sheds, metal sheds, small detached garages, decks, pergolas, arbors, gazebos, fences (wood, chain link, vinyl), non-load-bearing interior walls, drop ceilings, and built-in cabinetry. Call (805) 316-1610 if you have something specific and we'll tell you whether it's in our wheelhouse.
Permit requirements vary by city and structure type. For most freestanding sheds, fences, and decks under a certain square footage, no permit is needed. Attached structures, carports, and larger projects may require one. Check with your local building department — we'll advise based on what we see during the assessment.
No. If there's any chance of asbestos — older structures, textured drywall, floor tiles from pre-1980, popcorn ceilings — you'll need a licensed abatement contractor before we start. We don't cut, break, or disturb suspected asbestos materials. Safety on this point is non-negotiable.
Concrete slab removal is something we do regularly as an add-on to shed and deck demolition. The slab gets broken up with a jackhammer, loaded into the truck, and hauled to a concrete recycling facility. Pricing is based on the size and thickness of the slab — let us know during the assessment so we can include it in the quote.
Demo jobs start at $199 for small structures like a basic fence section or a small shed. Pricing reflects both the demolition labor and the debris hauling. A typical backyard shed runs $199–$499 depending on size and materials. Decks and larger structures are priced based on the assessment. You get one combined price for the full job before we start.
A small shed or fence section can be down, loaded, and hauled in 2 to 3 hours. A full deck or larger shed takes 4 to 6 hours. Very large structures or jobs with concrete slab removal may take a full day. We give you a realistic timeline during the assessment.
We take precautions to protect surrounding landscaping, hardscape, and structures. We lay down plywood over planted areas when carrying debris, and we're careful with our equipment around pools, patios, and fencing that's staying. Some minor ground disturbance near the structure being demolished is normal.
Non-load-bearing walls, closet partitions, and built-in cabinetry are all in our scope. Load-bearing walls require a structural engineer and are outside our service. If you're not sure whether a wall is load-bearing, have a contractor or engineer verify before we come out.
Full house demolitions are outside our scope — those require heavy equipment, engineering, and specific permits. We handle light demolition: sheds, decks, fences, interior non-structural teardowns, and similar projects. For anything larger, you'll need a licensed demolition contractor.
Clean wood goes to wood recyclers when possible. Metal fencing and hardware go to scrap metal facilities. Concrete gets crushed and reused as fill. Mixed demolition debris goes to Toland Road Landfill or Chiquita Canyon Landfill. We sort at the disposal end to divert recyclable materials from the landfill.
