The call came in on a Tuesday morning — a family in Lang Ranch needed their parents' home cleared before the end of the week. The house had been lived in for over 30 years, and every room showed it. Three bedrooms of furniture, a garage packed floor to ceiling, a shed full of yard equipment, and boxes in every closet.
We showed up Wednesday at 7 AM with a three-man crew and two trucks. The plan was simple: start in the back bedrooms, work forward, and sort as we go. Anything in decent shape — furniture, kitchenware, clothing — got staged for donation. Everything else went straight to the truck.
By noon we'd cleared all three bedrooms, both bathrooms, and the hallway closets. The garage took the longest — old paint cans, holiday decorations from the '90s, a workbench bolted to the wall, and enough cardboard boxes to fill a truck on their own.
We made two runs to Toland Road Landfill and one donation run to Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Thousand Oaks Boulevard. The family asked us to keep anything that looked like it might be sentimental — photo albums, a few pieces of art, some jewelry boxes. We set those aside in the living room for them to go through later.
By 4 PM the house was empty. We did a final sweep of every room, wiped down the kitchen counters, and left the keys on the counter. The family's realtor was coming the next morning for photos.
